Meet Thelma

Thelma Boac is a passionate and dedicated longtime educator with over forty years' experience in education and counting. She began her career as a teacher, later becoming an administrator and high school principal both at Independence High School and Silver Creek High School in the East Side Union High School District. Thelma then moved on to become an adjunct professor at San Jose State University and the National Hispanic University. 

The Santa Clara County Office of Education would later recruit her as a professional expert coach. There she taught, trained, and prepared newly appointed principals and administrators to complete their lifetime administrative credential for the State of California. In 2013 Thelma would be appointed as a Trustee for Berryessa Union School District Board to fill a sudden vacancy. She was re-elected by the voters to serve on the School Board for a four-year term in the November 2014 election. She was the first Filipina elected to serve on the school board, and the only female on the board for eight years.

The recipient of many awards and recognition from Congressional members and California State legislators, Thelma has not lost sight of her passion in life and work in the community. Thelma has always said she failed at retirement. Her motto, "Excellent schools equate to a thriving community." Thelma has worn many hats but is most proud of being mother to her son and daughter, and grandmother to her four grandchildren.

    • Continuing to update facilities and classroom technology for 21st-century learning

  • As a former professional administrative leadership coach for the Santa Clara County Office of Education, Thelma understands the importance of ensuring BUSD teachers and staff are trained, and prepared.

  • As a mother and grandmother, Thelma knows the importance family engagement and support plays in student success. She is committed to ensuring:

    • BUSD continues adopting family engagement policies in it’s annual Local Control and Accountability Plans

    • Transparent Communication to keep parents informed of upcoming policies and academic goals.

    • BUSD Advisory bodies such as Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), district advisory committees, & School Site Councils (SSCs) are supported.
